Wycliffe Oparanya has downplayed ongoing speculation that he could be among those dropped in a possible cabinet reshuffle being planned by President William Ruto.
The Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs made it clear that he was not worried about his job, saying leadership does not end with holding a government position.
Speaking casually at a gathering in his Butere home area, Oparanya told locals that his commitment to serving them would remain the same whether he was in office or not.
He told the crowd that serving people goes beyond titles and that true leadership means standing with citizens at all times.
His remarks drew loud cheers from supporters who praised his humility and calm approach amid the ongoing political speculation.
The statement comes at a time when reports from Nairobi indicate that President Ruto is planning a major shake-up in his administration. According to those reports, several cabinet secretaries could be dropped, especially those accused of underperformance or those whose political loyalty has come into question.
The move is believed to be part of a wider realignment meant to strengthen the president’s political base ahead of the next election.
The cabinet, which was expanded last year to include members from the ODM party following a short-lived truce between Ruto and Raila Odinga, is now said to be under review.
Insiders claim that the reshuffle could create room for new allies who have recently joined forces with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Among those expected to benefit from this arrangement are leaders linked to Gideon Moi’s KANU party. Moi is said to have met President Ruto earlier this month at State House, where discussions reportedly centered on political cooperation and possible cabinet appointments.
During his Butere meeting, Oparanya spoke mainly in Swahili, emphasizing that his loyalty was to the people rather than positions.
He said even if he retired or left government, he would continue engaging with locals through cooperative and development programs.
His focus on empowering small-scale farmers, especially those in the coffee and sugar sectors, has made him a respected figure in Western Kenya.
Residents see him as a leader who understands their daily struggles and pushes for fair systems that benefit ordinary citizens.
At the same time, speculation about other new faces possibly joining the cabinet has grown. There are whispers that Winnie Odinga, daughter of the late Raila Odinga, might be considered for a role in government.
Her recent remarks during her father’s funeral, where she mentioned her interest in serving the people, sparked widespread debate about her political future.
Political analysts say these developments are part of President Ruto’s strategy to bring together diverse political voices before the 2027 election.
However, the uncertainty has caused tension within the cabinet, with some members reportedly anxious about their fate.
Despite the political noise, Oparanya’s calm and confident tone in Butere showed a leader unfazed by the shifting winds of politics, focused instead on his mission to serve Kenyans both inside and outside government.
