Nevnina shares the untold challenges facing Albert Ojwang’s family on Mwelekeo TV

Date:

One year after the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang, his family has spoken about the challenges they continue to face, revealing that many of the promises made to them after his death have not been fulfilled.

Speaking in an interview with Mwelekeo TV, Albert’s widow, Nevnina, shared the struggles of raising their child alone while dealing with financial difficulties and the pain of losing her husband.

Albert Ojwang died in police custody in June 2025 after being arrested from his home in Kakoth village, Homa Bay County, and taken to Nairobi.

His death sparked national concern and attracted attention from leaders, activists, and members of the public who called for justice and accountability.

During that period, the family received support from different individuals and institutions, giving them hope that they would not face their difficult situation alone.

According to Nevnina, several leaders visited the family and made commitments aimed at helping them rebuild their lives. Among the promises she recalled were a job opportunity after completing her studies, a house in Nairobi, and a plot of land for the family.

There were also pledges to support the education of their young son. In addition, President William Ruto sent condolences and financial assistance during the burial period.

However, the family says the situation changed as public attention gradually shifted away from the case.

Nevnina explained that many of the commitments made during that period remain unfulfilled. She said life has become increasingly difficult and that the family now struggles to meet basic needs.

At times, she noted, they have found themselves facing serious financial hardship despite the support and assurances they received immediately after Albert’s death.

The widow described Albert as the family’s main provider and a man who had many plans for their future. His absence, she said, has left a gap that cannot be filled. Beyond the financial burden, she continues to deal with the emotional impact of losing a husband and the responsibility of raising their child on her own.

The family also expressed disappointment with leaders whom they believe used their situation to gain public sympathy before moving on.

Nevnina urged those in positions of influence to avoid making promises they do not intend to keep, especially to families going through grief and hardship.

As they continue to seek justice, the family says they are still waiting for full accountability regarding the circumstances surrounding Albert’s death.

They want the truth about what happened while he was in police custody to be fully established.

During the interview, the family remembered Albert as a caring husband, devoted father, and football lover who dreamed of creating a better future for his loved ones.

Nevnina spoke about missing the simple moments they shared together and the life they had planned to build.

The conversation on Mwelekeo TV highlighted not only the family’s personal loss but also concerns about police conduct, accountability, and the consequences of promises that remain unfulfilled.

One year after Albert Ojwang’s death, the family’s message remains simple and firm, genuine support is shown through actions, not words, and the search for justice should not end when public attention fades.
