Mother of Gideon Kibet and Rony Kiplagat Demands Release of Abducted Sons

Date:

Caroline Mutai, the mother of Gideon Kibet, also known as “Kibet Bull,” and his elder brother Rony Kiplagat, has spoken out about the alleged abduction of her two sons. In an emotional appeal to Citizen TV, she recounted the distressing ordeal she faced during the festive season after their disappearance, which severely affected her health.

“I have been hospitalized for high blood pressure for close to three days and was discharged on December 27. Right now, I do not even have the strength to speak about my two children,” Mutai said tearfully.

Allegations Against Gideon Kibet

Gideon, a well-known cartoonist on social media platform X, is said to have been abducted for sharing silhouette images resembling President William Ruto and other leaders. These images, widely used by critics of the government, may have drawn the attention of authorities.

His abduction occurred shortly after a meeting with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah at the Taj Tower in Nairobi. Senator Omtatah revealed that his security team noticed a white Subaru trailing Kibet, which was later seen parked nearby.

Unclear Reasons for Rony’s Disappearance

Meanwhile, the motive behind Rony Kiplagat’s disappearance remains unclear. He was reportedly abducted on December 21, days before Gideon’s incident.

Caroline’s Plea

Caroline, a mother of ten, expressed anguish over the loss of her sons and pleaded with the government to reveal their whereabouts and secure their release. She emphasized that she was just an ordinary Kenyan working hard to provide for her family.

“I was told there were things Gideon was doing online, but I do not know what they are. I am just a hustler who worked hard to educate my children so they could assist me,” she said.

Caroline disclosed that Gideon was set to travel to Israel for higher education as part of a group of Egerton University students. She took out a Ksh200,000 loan to support his trip, hoping that his education would lead to a brighter future for their family. However, his disappearance has derailed those plans.

Growing Concerns Over Enforced Disappearances

The abduction of Gideon and Rony highlights a growing concern in Kenya over enforced disappearances. Despite President Ruto’s previous promises to end such practices, incidents like these continue to occur, sparking online and offline outrage.

Caroline concluded with a heartfelt plea: “I want to ask the government to release my sons and let me know where they are because I depend on them heavily.”

Kenyans continue to call on the government to address these cases urgently, demanding an end to state-sponsored abductions and justice for victims and their families.
