Aldai MP Marianne Kitany is under heavy fire after it was revealed that her office distributed 400 bags of contaminated sugar to over 30 schools in her constituency through the NG-CDF. The explosive revelation was shared by Otuoma Edwards on Instagram, exposing the rot behind what was disguised as a generous donation. Instead of improving lives, the sugar handed out ended up putting the health of hundreds of schoolchildren at serious risk.
The sugar was later found to be unfit for human consumption, having failed several safety and quality tests conducted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
According to KEBS, the sugar did not meet basic food safety thresholds. It was full of harmful levels of yeast and molds, had high moisture content, and failed on key markers like polarization and water insoluble matter.
In simpler terms, this wasn’t just expired sugar it was outright toxic. The contaminated sugar was distributed to schools such as Ndurio, Kimaren, Chepkongony, Chepkuny, Kapkures, Kaptumek, Koyo, Maraba, Kesegon, Koitabut, Banja High School, and many more.
The scandal began to emerge after Ndurio Secondary School raised concerns that led to KEBS stepping in for a full analysis.Kitany, rather than taking responsibility, decided to throw blame around. She accused rogue officers at the port and claimed the supplier was also a victim of counterfeit products. She even tried to justify the sugar, calling it a genuine act of support.

But these are just tired excuses. Her office used taxpayers’ money to buy and distribute this harmful product. No amount of finger-pointing can erase the fact that it was her initiative and her oversight that allowed this sugar to end up in school kitchens.
The idea that over 30 schools were handed sugar unfit for consumption isn’t just disgusting it’s criminal. This was not a simple mistake. It was a reckless move that speaks to the arrogance and impunity of some leaders who think they can get away with anything.
Kitany has also been in the spotlight before for using CDF funds to hand out schoolbooks branded with her own image. That showed her obsession with self-promotion.
Contaminated sugar in school kitchens could have caused sickness or even long-term health issues for innocent students. If anything demands a full investigation and legal consequences, it is this. The people of Aldai deserve better.
