According to a report shared on X by Cyprian Is Nyakundi, Kenyan men’s national football team goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been dragged into serious match-fixing allegations after a leaked video surfaced online.
The video, secretly recorded inside a stationary vehicle, allegedly captures Matasi negotiating a deal to manipulate the outcome of a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match. He is seen seated in the right back seat, actively discussing the matter with an unseen individual, while another person recorded the conversation from the left back seat.
The date of the recording is unclear, but its emergence has triggered widespread debate and concern.Matasi, who currently plays for Kakamega Homeboyz FC after a stint at Kenya Police FC, has had a long career in Kenyan football.

Having previously played for Tusker FC, Posta Rangers FC, and AFC Leopards, he has been considered one of Kenya’s top goalkeepers. However, his performances have often divided opinion among football fans, with some questioning his consistency in crucial matches.
While he has made impressive saves in some games, there have been instances where he conceded goals that appeared preventable. Some of his errors have been so glaring that fans have openly debated whether they were genuine mistakes or signs of something more questionable.
Even at the national level, Harambee Stars supporters have occasionally expressed frustration over Matasi’s performances. His mistakes in key matches have cost the team valuable points, and there have been moments when his decision-making raised eyebrows.
While goalkeepers are naturally prone to errors, some of Matasi’s blunders have seemed unusual for a player of his experience. The leaked video has now intensified scrutiny, with many fans revisiting past matches and wondering whether some of his costly mistakes were deliberate.
Match-fixing has been a growing concern in Kenyan football, with reports of players and officials being approached by betting syndicates. If the allegations against Matasi are proven true, it would not only tarnish his career but also deal a heavy blow to the integrity of the sport in the country.
Football authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but the pressure is mounting for a thorough investigation.
Fans and stakeholders will be closely watching to see whether the claims are substantiated or if Matasi will clear his name.
