Kenya has lost one of its legislators following the death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 am.
His death was confirmed through an official communication from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
The cause of death was not disclosed, leaving colleagues, friends, and family in deep shock and sorrow.
In his message, Speaker Wetang’ula described Hamisi’s passing as a major loss not only to Parliament but also to the country as a whole. He noted that Hamisi had served with dedication and remained committed to his duties until his final days.
According to the Speaker, the late MP was widely respected for his humility, calm nature, and sincere approach to public service, qualities that earned him admiration within and outside Parliament.
Hamisi was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) after the 2022 General Election. During his time in Parliament, he actively participated in key committees.
He served in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, where he contributed to discussions and decisions affecting youth, talent development, and cultural heritage.
He was also a member of the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, a role that reflected his interest in unity, fairness, and inclusion across the country.
While announcing the death, Wetang’ula extended condolences on behalf of Members of Parliament and staff of the National Assembly.
In his message, he said, “On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community.”
The Speaker also appointed a team of MPs, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Owen Baya, to work closely with the family in organizing a respectful send-off for the late legislator.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Denar Hamisi’s life was marked by a strong focus on education and public service.

Two years later, he obtained a Master of International Business Administration. His academic journey continued with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006.
