“Kenya is on autopilot courtesy of the PhD,” Wamuchomba takes dig at Ruto

Date:

According to the post on X by Kenyans.co.ke, a political storm is brewing after Gathoni Wamuchomba openly criticized President William Ruto’s leadership. In a social media post, she sarcastically suggested that Ruto had taken on too many roles, leaving Kenya without proper leadership.

Her comments have sparked a heated debate about how the President is running the country.

Wamuchomba was responding to Ruto’s recent remarks, where he appeared to dismiss critics by highlighting his political experience.

He stated that he had served as a Member of Parliament for 15 years, a Deputy President for 10 years, and now as President. He then asked what more his opponents could say against him.

His statement, made on February 4, 2025, was meant to project confidence in his leadership, but Wamuchomba’s reaction turned it into a point of criticism.

She mockingly listed various roles she believes Ruto has assumed beyond the presidency. According to her, Ruto is acting not only as President but also as a Principal Secretary, a Cabinet Minister, a doctor, a preacher, a teacher, a soldier, and even a pilot.

Her remarks suggested that he was centralizing power and failing to delegate responsibilities properly. This, she implied, had left his advisors and government officials without a clear role in decision-making.

Her comments have intensified political discussions, especially as Ruto prepares for the 2027 elections. Many politicians are beginning to position themselves for the upcoming political season, and such criticisms could shape public perception.

Some believe Wamuchomba’s statement reflects growing dissatisfaction within the government, while others see it as an attempt to weaken Ruto’s influence ahead of the elections.

The issue of power concentration has been raised before, with critics arguing that Ruto is micromanaging the government rather than allowing his Cabinet and other officials to function independently.

Supporters of the President, however, argue that his hands-on approach ensures efficiency and accountability. They believe he is filling the gaps left by underperforming officials rather than sidelining them.

It remains to be seen how Ruto will handle such criticisms. His leadership style has been a subject of discussion since he took office, and with elections approaching, scrutiny will only increase.

Whether he chooses to adjust his approach or continue with his current leadership style will play a role in shaping the political conversation leading up to 2027.
