” I’m not a criminal” Francis Gaitho tells DCI after ‘wanted’ notice

Date:

Social media influencer Francis Gaitho has stated that he will appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Gaitho tweeted on Thursday, immediately after the DCI requested information about him and marked him as ‘wanted’.

“I will be presenting myself at DCI headquarters on Monday… at 10am accompanied by my lawyers,” he said.

“I’m not a criminal. I’m not a murderer. I’m not a capital offender. I just tweet. Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability.”

Gaitho alleged that he was the victim of political persecution and that other offenders are free.

“This latest tweet by DCI is crafted to evoke fear and isolate me from friends and family as they know my lawyers and could have served them direct,” Gaitho said on X.

He urged the media to closely monitor his arrest, stating that in light of all the abductions and enforced disappearances, media coverage will considerably aid in ensuring responsibility from law enforcement officials.

In the quoted statement on Thursday, DCI said that Gaitho had been charged with publishing false information.

They further alleged that he failed to appear in court on December 4, 2024, which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for him.

“Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability,” Gaitho said.
