Human rights groups demand answers after Kuria issues chilling warning over protests

Date:

Senior government advisor Moses Kuria has shocked many people online after he posted a harsh and unclear warning about future demonstrations in the Mt Kenya region.

His message came soon after protests that reportedly led to the deaths of several people, destruction of property, and the interruption of business activities in different towns within the area. Kuria’s post, which has gone viral, sounded emotional and full of anger.

“You put my people’s lives at risk again, I kill you. It’s that simple.” He said.

Although he didn’t name any specific person or group, many Kenyans believe that Kuria was speaking to the organizers of the recent demonstrations, which turned violent in places like Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Murang’a.

Being from the Mt Kenya region himself, Kuria seemed to express frustration over what he believes was unnecessary suffering faced by local people due to the chaos. Reports indicate that several shops were broken into, businesses looted, and public property destroyed during the protests.

Some families are also mourning loved ones who died in the unrest, with others nursing serious injuries.Kuria’s message quickly drew attention and sparked debate across social media.

Some people backed him, saying the violence had gone too far and that leaders must stand firm to defend their regions. To them, Kuria was simply showing leadership by trying to warn those behind the destruction.

However, a large number of people found his language to be dangerous. Critics said a government advisor threatening to kill others, even if out of anger, sends a terrible message, especially when the country is already tense.

Human rights groups have now raised concerns. They argue that public officials should set a better example and avoid using threatening words that might lead to more violence.

Political experts also warned that such remarks could easily be taken the wrong way and used to justify more conflict or revenge.

They are now asking Kuria to come forward and explain exactly what he meant, and to take responsibility for the impact of his words.

At the same time, some local leaders from the Mt Kenya region are calling for calm and dialogue. They believe that if protests are going to happen again, there must be better planning and coordination with security teams to avoid loss of life and destruction.

They also want the national government to step up efforts in maintaining peace and protecting people’s livelihoods.
