“He spoke less than 7 times” Itumbi exposes Gachagua’s cabinet involvement

Date:

Dennis Itumbi, who serves as the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, has openly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for claiming that he rejected certain projects during Cabinet meetings.

Gachagua has repeatedly alleged that he stood against specific government proposals, including the supposed plan to sell Bomas of Kenya. However, Itumbi has come out strongly to dispute these claims, arguing that official Cabinet records tell a different story.

According to Itumbi, Gachagua barely spoke during Cabinet meetings. He stated that throughout his tenure as deputy president, Gachagua contributed less than seven times in total.

Itumbi emphasized that modern governance requires accountability, and it was necessary to correct the misleading narrative being spread by the former DP.

He pointed out that Cabinet meetings are now digitized, meaning every statement made during those sessions is recorded and can be verified.

On the specific matter of Bomas of Kenya, Itumbi insisted that Gachagua never opposed its modernization. Instead, he claimed that the former DP actually supported fast-tracking the project, acknowledging that the facility had been neglected for decades.

Itumbi dismissed Gachagua’s recent remarks as an attempt to rewrite history, noting that the records do not show any instance where the former deputy president opposed the project. He also stated that there is no evidence to support Gachagua’s assertion that Bomas was sold to a Turkish investor.

Gachagua had spoken on Sunday, insisting that he was the only Cabinet member who rejected a proposal to sell Bomas. He argued that other officials remained silent out of fear, but he took a firm stand to defend what he called a national heritage.

However, Itumbi countered this statement, branding it as a desperate attempt to mislead the public. He clarified that Bomas is not being sold but is undergoing transformation into a world-class international conference and cultural center.

The back-and-forth between Itumbi and Gachagua highlights the growing divide between the former DP and President Ruto’s administration. Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024 after serving for just over two years, has continued to portray himself as a victim of betrayal.

Since his removal, he has increasingly positioned himself as a leader who fought against unpopular policies, though government insiders like Itumbi are now openly challenging his claims.

The key question remains whether Gachagua’s claims will hold any weight in the public eye or if the official records will disprove his version of events. With both sides sticking to their positions, it is clear that the political tensions surrounding his impeachment are far from over.
