From protest to bloodshed as Ruto regime sent masked operatives to silence dissent with bullets

Date:

Citizen TV has exposed something deeply disturbing an elite killer squad made up of masked operatives from the DCI, ATPU, and the National Intelligence Service that was deployed during the Saba Saba protests.

These men, dressed in black and moving like ghosts, were heavily armed and fired live bullets without warning. They shot into crowds, into apartments, and even into rooftops. This was not policing. This was a full-blown attack on civilians by the very state that is meant to protect them.

The fact that these operatives were able to act with such impunity points to one thing they are protected by orders from the highest levels of government.

The footage shows it clearly. These aren’t rogue elements. These are trained men, working in coordination, not wearing uniforms, and hiding behind masks. They arrived in unmarked vehicles, attacked and left behind chaos, fear, and bloodshed.

Even apartment dwellers were not safe, as bullets pierced their walls and ceilings. Is this what the government calls national security?

The Police Reforms Working Group has raised the alarm, pointing out that the presence of such masked, heavily armed squads during protests violates court orders.

The law is clear, any officer deployed must be in uniform and identifiable. But under this government, those orders are ignored. What does it say about the rule of law when even the police operate above it?

These killer squads have no name tags, no badge numbers, no accountability and now, over 31 people are dead.

We must not forget the names of those in command. Adamson Bungei, in charge of operations at the National Police Service. Mohammed Amin, Director of DCI. Said Kiprotich, boss of the ATPU. And Noordin Hajji, the head of the National Intelligence Service.

These are the men being accused of directing a campaign of death against unarmed Kenyans. Ironically, President William Ruto himself once condemned such units.

In 2022, he said he had ordered the disbandment of a similar police squad that was allegedly executing people. But today, those same tactics are back and worse.

Just before the protests, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen made a remark that many took as a green light for violence. He said that anyone throwing stones at police officers wanted to kill, and that officers wouldn’t treat such people with kindness.

Is this the kind of leadership Kenyans deserve? One that justifies bloodshed with careless words and then pretends to be shocked by the outcome?

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had once claimed that a special group of 101 officers was trained for torture, killings, and cover-up under Hajji’s command. The current events now give weight to those claims.

These aren’t isolated cases. This looks like a well-planned operation to silence dissent through fear and death. What kind of government sends masked killers into the streets to shoot its own people? These weren’t armed rebels or militants.

These were citizens, most of them youth, using their constitutional right to protest. And now many of them are dead.

Their killers will probably never face court. Their families may never find justice. The question remains who is really in charge in this country? Because right now, it looks like the government has become the enemy of the people.
