Abdirizak Mohamed Hassan, a suspect in a major fraud case, is now facing more serious charges after being accused of attempting to tamper with a key prosecution witness.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) moved quickly, filing an urgent application on January 14, 2025, to cancel Hassan’s bail, citing his interference with the witness.
According to the prosecution, Hassan tried to pressure the main witness into retracting her statement, a move that could severely affect his chances of being granted bail.
Hassan is charged with being in Kenya illegally, having obtained fraudulent Kenyan registration documents, and using a fake identity to apply for a Kenyan National ID.
He was arrested in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on November 10, 2024, when he was found without valid immigration papers.
Despite his lawyer requesting time to respond to the bail cancellation application, the case has now taken a much more serious turn.
A crucial part of the case involves the testimony of Athara Abey Ali, whom Hassan initially claimed was his mother.
However, Ali has denied any connection to him, stating she had never met Hassan and had only three daughters, one of whom had passed away.
She further revealed that her ID had been lost in Eastleigh, which Hassan allegedly used in an attempt to forge official documents.
Ali’s statements have directly contradicted Hassan’s claims, adding more weight to the fraud accusations against him.
The prosecution’s latest move to revoke Hassan’s bail highlights the gravity of his actions and the growing evidence against him.
As the case continues, it will be revisited on February 3, 2025, when the ODPP plans to argue for his remand while the charges are processed.
This latest development only deepens the suspicion surrounding Hassan’s intentions, and if proven, his witness tampering could significantly complicate his defense.
