Four arrested performing midnight witchcraft ritual outside Governor’s home in Ukambani

Date:

Residents of a county in Ukambani woke up to shocking news after four people were arrested outside a governor’s home in what appeared to be a witchcraft ritual.

The incident happened at around 2:00 a.m. when security guards at the governor’s residence noticed suspicious activity near the main gate and raised the alarm.

Police officers who arrived minutes later found the suspects kneeling on the ground, chanting while holding a calabash, animal whiskers, and several strange items believed to be used in witchcraft.

According to witnesses, the four were performing what looked like a night ritual involving pouring unknown liquids on the ground and murmuring words that no one could understand.

The guards said the group did not attempt to run away when confronted, which made the situation even more unusual.

They were immediately arrested and taken to a nearby police station for interrogation. Residents who heard about the incident rushed to the area, some out of fear and others out of curiosity, as police sealed off the scene to collect evidence.

Police confirmed the arrests and said investigations were ongoing to find out the motive behind the strange ritual and whether it was aimed at the county leader.

Officers also said the items recovered from the suspects would be subjected to forensic analysis to determine what they contained.

Sources within the investigation team said the four suspects gave conflicting statements about why they were at the governor’s residence at such an hour, adding to the mystery surrounding the case.

Photos shared online showed the four suspects seated on the ground surrounded by the strange items. The pictures spread widely on social media, triggering heated discussions across the country.

Some Kenyans expressed disbelief that such incidents still occur, while others said it reflected how superstition continues to influence local communities despite modern education and religion.

A few people dismissed the reports as attention-seeking behaviour or a politically motivated stunt.Local leaders and clergy have condemned the incident, urging residents to avoid such practices and to embrace dialogue and lawful ways of addressing differences.

They warned that acts involving witchcraft often fuel fear and division, especially when connected to politics. Police have assured the public that the matter is being treated seriously and that the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

The bizarre incident has left many residents unsettled, questioning what could have driven four adults to attempt such a mysterious act outside a governor’s home in the middle of the night.
