Four men were arrested in Kisii after police recovered a home-made gun and other crude weapons during a late-night operation at the Kisii bus park.
The suspects were arrested shortly after midnight following a tip-off from members of the public who noticed a suspicious gathering at the busy transport area. Their quick report allowed officers from Kisii Central Police Station to respond in time and stop what police believe could have been a criminal mission.According to police, officers arrived at the scene and found the group behaving suspiciously.
As soon as the suspects noticed the police approaching, they tried to run away in different directions in an attempt to avoid arrest.
However, the officers acted quickly and managed to surround them before they could escape. The situation was brought under control within a short time, leading to the arrest of all four suspects.
The men were identified as Evan Makori, Robert Omosa, Peter Kuria, and Moses Kariuki.
Police carried out a search on the suspects and recovered several items believed to be linked to criminal activity. Among the items found was a home-made pistol loaded with one live 9mm round.
Officers also recovered two knives, a hammer, and other crude weapons. Investigators believe the items pointed to possible criminal intentions, although further investigations are still ongoing to establish the full details.
The four suspects are currently being held in police custody as they undergo processing before being taken to court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations praised members of the public for their cooperation and timely information that made the operation successful.
The agency said public support remains important in the fight against crime, especially in helping police act quickly before criminal plans are carried out.
Police also assured residents that security operations will continue in different parts of the country to help protect lives and property.
