Family in fear as Serah Muthui of Absa Bank accused of blackmail and illicit deals

Date:

The recent revelations by Cyprian Is Nyakundi have brought to light a troubling scandal involving Absa Bank Kenya, where allegations of blackmail, misconduct, and threats have surfaced, implicating a senior employee.

What began as a private matter has now spiraled into a full-blown controversy, drawing in the bank’s management, family members, and even law enforcement.

Nyakundi’s detailed account paints a disturbing picture of a bank employee allegedly abusing her position for personal gain while intimidating a family into silence.

This situation has raised serious questions about the integrity of the bank’s internal controls and the conduct of its staff.

At the heart of the scandal is Serah Muthui, an employee at Absa Bank’s Nyali branch, who is accused of leveraging her position to threaten and intimidate a family over what she termed “persistent interference.”

According to Nyakundi’s report, Serah has been linked to a series of serious allegations, including leaking confidential client information, engaging in illicit financial dealings, and meddling in a family’s private affairs.

The most shocking claim is that she allegedly threatened to release explicit images of Elias Kariku Kavwangi, a 55-year-old man with whom she was reportedly involved.

This revelation has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the misuse of power within the banking sector.

Nyakundi’s report further details how a family member, identified as Mwangi, disclosed that Serah had called one of Kavwangi’s relatives and issued chilling threats.

She allegedly boasted about having enough money and influence to silence the family permanently, even claiming to have the backing of her own family members, including a brother who holds a senior position at the bank.

These threats have left the family in a state of fear and uncertainty, unsure of how to protect themselves from her alleged intimidation tactics.

The situation has become so dire that the family has sought intervention from the bank’s top management and law enforcement agencies. In the midst of this drama, Nyakundi’s exposé has shed light on the broader implications of Serah’s alleged actions.

A formal complaint was submitted to Absa Bank’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director on February 14, 2025, outlining the distress caused to Kavwangi’s wife and children.

The complaint, written by Elizabeth Kinyanjui, an aunt to Kavwangi’s wife, accuses Serah of aggressively inserting herself into the family’s private life.

Elizabeth describes how Serah would frequently visit Kavwangi’s home, leaving her own vehicle parked there while taking his red Mitsubishi to go partying.

This behavior raised alarm bells for the family, particularly as the children expressed discomfort with her presence.

Nyakundi’s report also highlights more serious allegations against Serah, including claims that she used her position at the bank to access confidential information, such as details of overseas accounts belonging to deceased clients.

It is alleged that she may have introduced Kavwangi to fraudulent dealings, possibly involving money laundering. His sudden change in behavior has led his relatives to suspect that he may have been manipulated.

Kavwangi’s sons reportedly discovered explicit content linked to Serah on his phone, along with her identification documents, which she had left behind while asking him to assist her in acquiring a new number plate.

These discoveries have only deepened the family’s concerns about her influence over their father.Elizabeth’s letter, as detailed in Nyakundi’s exposé, calls on Absa Bank to take immediate action against Serah.

She warns that her misconduct could not only destroy their family but also tarnish the bank’s reputation. Meanwhile, the scandal has begun to attract attention on social media, with users like Johntez Githungumi publicly criticizing Absa Bank for employing someone allegedly involved in such destructive behavior.

The controversy has also taken a darker turn, with Nyakundi reporting that Serah’s name has been linked to a separate criminal case involving the murder of a middle-aged man, allegedly the result of a love triangle.

This has further fueled concerns about her character and the potential danger she poses to those around her.

The family remains under immense pressure. Elizabeth has reportedly received menacing calls warning her to stop pursuing the matter, and she has since filed a formal complaint with the police.

The family fears that they are being targeted in a coordinated effort to silence them, with Nyakundi drawing parallels to past cases that ended in tragedy.

They recall the murder of Oscar Owino, a bank staff member who was allegedly killed under suspicious circumstances linked to financial scandals, and worry that they could face a similar fate.

With Nyakundi’s exposé gaining widespread attention, the pressure is mounting on Absa Bank to address these damning allegations. The bank’s management is now on the spotlight, and the public is watching closely to see how they will handle this scandal.
