“Don’t blame Ruto for bad economy” CS Mbadi tells government critics

Date:

Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi has defended President William Ruto’s administration against criticism.

CS Mbadi slammed detractors for unfairly criticizing the president without giving the truth.

On Friday, January 3, 2025, he spoke at the burial of Ann Nanyama, the mother of National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, at Mukhweya Village, Bungoma County.

He also said that the Head of State was not to blame for the country’s economic issues, which were caused by the previous regime.

He went on to emphasize that the current significant national concerns are the result of the former regime’s pending bills and massive debt.

“You have given me a job to resuscitate our economy, I see a lot of concern and by the way I want to tell those of us who are in government and those supporting, the work of opposition is to criticise,” he stated.

“Even when I was in opposition I could see a hundred proposals and I would say only 5 are bad and 95 are good, it is not my business to say the good 95.“

I only want to plead with those criticising to be factual, let us be honest. If we are complaining about a bad economy saying things are difficult and questioning why life is difficult, it is because of the public debts, the pending bills, are you telling us the debt was incurred when Ruto was the president?” he posed.

“Are you telling us that the pending bills amounting to 700 billion were incurred when Ruto was the President? Why have you forgotten how we got to where we are? Why are you blaming Ruto for fixing a problem that was created?”

While urging Kenyans to remain patient with the existing government, CS Mbadi underlined his commitment to economic stability.

He also promised to assist President Ruto in achieving his country’s objectives while also ensuring that other regions do not miss out on development opportunities.
