Dishi na County scandal exposes Sakaja’s dirty dealings with public funds

Date:

Johnson Sakaja’s time as Nairobi governor has been filled with controversy, corruption claims, and reckless leadership that has left the city in chaos. His administration has been accused of misusing public funds, failing to deliver on promises, and engaging in petty political fights that do not benefit Nairobi residents. His leadership has turned into a circus where public money is disappearing without accountability while services in the county continue to deteriorate. One of the biggest scandals under Sakaja’s watch is the Dishi na County school feeding program.

As per the reports by Nation Africa, Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu revealed that Ksh145 million donated by the French Embassy for the program was unaccounted for. Instead of going through official county financial channels, the money was deposited directly into the account of a non-profit organization, bypassing government oversight.

There was also no formal agreement between the county and the organization, raising serious questions about accountability. Even more shocking is that parents were supposed to contribute Ksh5 per meal while the county subsidized Ksh20, yet the county still ended up paying the full Ksh25 per meal.

This shows clear mismanagement and possible corruption, as there is no explanation why parents’ contributions were not factored in.Instead of addressing these concerns, Sakaja has been engaging in unnecessary fights that do not help Nairobians.

When Kenya Power disconnected electricity to county offices over a Ksh3.1 billion unpaid bill, his administration responded in the most shameful way. Garbage was dumped at the entrance of Kenya Power’s headquarters, company vehicles were clamped, and sewer lines were blocked.

This was an act of revenge that only exposed how low Sakaja is willing to go to cover up his failures. Instead of resolving the debt issue through negotiations, he turned to primitive tactics that made Nairobi look like a poorly managed city. This reckless behavior does not help businesses or residents, who need a leader who can solve problems professionally, not act out of anger.

Sakaja has also faced backlash from his own party, with UDA members calling for his removal due to arrogance, corruption, and poor leadership. His administration has been accused of hiring people through corrupt means and inflating project costs to benefit a few individuals.

While pretending to fight corruption, Sakaja wrote to the EACC to investigate graft at City Hall, but many see this as a distraction to hide the fact that he is running a corrupt government. Instead of taking real action against corruption, he is only trying to make it seem like he cares while public funds continue to be misused.

Nairobi is suffering under Sakaja’s leadership. The roads are in bad condition, garbage collection is irregular, and county services are slow and inefficient.

Instead of working to improve things, Sakaja is focusing on political battles, unnecessary fights with other institutions, and questionable projects that do not directly benefit residents.

His leadership is full of scandals, and his actions show he is not interested in making Nairobi better but in using his position for personal gain. The city needs a serious leader who will handle finances properly, work for the people, and ensure Nairobi develops instead of getting stuck in endless scandals.
