Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Thika West have arrested a wanted suspect in connection with several serious criminal cases reported in the area.
The suspect, identified as Crispus Mwangi Gitambi, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in the Athena area. Detectives traced him to his rented house, where he was taken into custody as investigations into his alleged involvement in the offences continued.
During the operation, officers also recovered a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number KMGS 004N.
The motorcycle is suspected to have been stolen and is believed to have been used in some of the phone-snatching incidents under investigation.
Following his arrest, Gitambi was taken through an identification parade as detectives sought to establish his connection to the reported offences.
He was positively identified in relation to an ongoing case of abduction and gang rape that is currently before the Thika Law Courts.
The suspect was also positively identified in connection with four other robbery cases that detectives are investigating. The identification process is expected to help investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding the different incidents and determine the suspect’s possible role.
The arrest comes as detectives continue efforts to deal with criminal activities involving phone snatching and other violent offences reported within Thika West.
Investigators are now working to establish whether the suspect may have been involved in other cases that have been reported in the area.
Detectives are also pursuing information that could help them identify other people who may have participated in the offences.
The recovery of the motorcycle is expected to form part of the evidence being examined as investigators work to establish how it was acquired and whether it was used during the reported crimes.
The DCI has not indicated the number of other suspects being sought in connection with the cases, but investigations have been intensified as officers work to establish the full extent of the criminal activities linked to the suspect.
Gitambi is expected to be taken to court once detectives complete the ongoing investigations. He will then have an opportunity to respond to the charges that may be brought against him before the court.
