ABSA Bank exposed in shocking Ksh 23 million fraud case involving deceased man’s account

Date:

The tragic story of David Otieno Oloo, also known as Dr. Oludhe, has left many in shock and disbelief. After his untimely death on August 4th, 2023, his family faced an unimaginable ordeal when they discovered that over Ksh 23 million had disappeared from his ABSA Bank Kisumu dollar account.

This loss occurred despite the family taking legal steps to protect the funds and ensure a proper succession process. The situation has sparked outrage, with many questioning how such a blatant financial fraud could happen in a reputable bank.

A Facebook user by the name Captainx Lennox Omondi has been vocal in exposing this injustice, hitting the bank hard for its role in the disappearance of the funds.

According to his detailed post, the family had gone to court and placed a caveat on the account, preventing any unauthorized withdrawals.

However, in a shocking turn of events, an individual named Simon Peter Wainana Njoroge, operating under Miradi Consultancy, filed a case in Nyamira, claiming David owed him Ksh 21 million.

A court order was then issued, compelling ABSA Bank to release the funds, but the order allegedly came from the Environment and Lands Court an entirely different jurisdiction that has nothing to do with succession matters.

The bank’s role in this remains highly suspicious. How does a court order from an unrelated court bypass a legitimate caveat placed on an account?

Even more disturbing is that David’s legally recognized wife, Donna, who was appointed as the estate administrator, was never informed of this transaction.

She only discovered the fraud a year later when she went to the bank to withdraw money for her children’s school fees, only to be told that the account was empty. How is it possible that a bank of ABSA’s stature allowed such a massive withdrawal without verifying the legitimacy of the claim?

Another shocking detail is that the bank manager responsible for handling this account quietly transferred to Eco Bank soon after the withdrawal was made.

If everything was done above board, why the sudden transfer? Moreover, the entire sum was withdrawn in Nyamira, despite the funds being held in ABSA Bank Kisumu.

These inconsistencies raise serious concerns about the bank’s involvement in this fraud.

This incident exposes a disturbing reality in Kenya—how easy it is to loot from the dead. If over Ksh 23 million can vanish from a deceased person’s account under the watch of a major bank, how many other families have lost their rightful inheritances through similar fraudulent schemes?

The banking system is supposed to protect customers, not aid in their financial ruin. If banks can allow such transactions without following the law, then no one’s money is safe.

This is not just a family tragedy, it is a national concern. What happens to David’s widow and children, who were depending on these funds for survival?

How many other grieving families have faced similar injustices but lacked the platform to speak out?

The fact that ABSA Bank has remained silent on this issue only adds to the suspicion. If they have nothing to hide, why haven’t they come forward to explain how such a massive fraud happened under their watch?David’s family deserves justice.

The authorities must investigate ABSA Bank’s role in this fraudulent withdrawal and hold those responsible accountable. The court system must also explain how a case that was never brought to the widow’s attention was used to authorize the looting of the account.
