Ruto’s old words haunt him as his actions mirror what he once condemned

Date:

President William Ruto’s leadership has become a source of anger and betrayal for many Kenyans who once saw him as a voice of reason and change. From the moment he stepped into office, his actions have exposed a dangerous level of hypocrisy, dishonesty, and cruelty that contradicts everything he claimed to stand for.

A resurfaced video where he once condemned government lawlessness has now become a mirror reflecting the very things he is now accused of doing and worse. In that video, Ruto boldly questioned why citizens should follow the law if the government itself breaks it.

Fast forward to 2025, and under his leadership, the government has not only broken the law but crushed the people beneath it. Police brutality has reached alarming levels, with peaceful demonstrators beaten, maimed, and even killed.

On June 25, 2024, innocent Kenyans lost their lives protesting about the deaths of those killed in the previous Finance Bill. Yet a year later, Ruto signed an even harsher bill into law, ignoring cries for justice, accountability, and relief.

The message he’s sending is clear, the lives and voices of ordinary Kenyans don’t matter.

Beyond the protests, the killings, and the rising cost of living, corruption under Ruto’s government has become business as usual. His inner circle is filled with questionable figures facing allegations of theft and misuse of public funds.

Billions disappear from state coffers with no arrests or consequences, while the same government demands more taxes from struggling citizens.

The double standards are disgusting friends of the regime live lavishly while the youth drown in unemployment and hunger.

Promises of job creation and economic reforms have turned into empty talk, replaced by a growing culture of impunity.

It is also becoming more obvious that Ruto’s administration uses fear as a tool of control. Journalists and activists who speak out are harassed.

Security officers are deployed not to protect citizens but to silence them. Even elected leaders who disagree with the government’s actions are intimidated. The kind of police force that shoots into crowds, abducts young protestors, and refuses to answer for it that is not a force of order, that is a tool of dictatorship.

Ruto, who once said governments must respect their people, now runs one that rules through fear and violence.

What makes all this worse is the level of arrogance shown by Ruto and those close to him.

They behave as if they are untouchable, mocking the pain of the people while defending policies that harm them.

When confronted with questions about extrajudicial killings or economic hardship, the president offers excuses or blames others. He refuses to take responsibility even as the country falls deeper into debt, division, and despair.

His administration appears more interested in suppressing protests than addressing the real causes of anger poverty, corruption, joblessness, and injustice. The Finance Bill is just a small piece of the bigger problem.

The real issue is a leader who has forgotten the people. A leader who once spoke of freedom, fairness, and dignity now presides over police killings, financial exploitation, and government thuggery.

The youth are on the streets not just because of taxes, but because they feel abandoned. Ruto’s government has failed to protect them, failed to listen to them, and now seems determined to punish them for demanding better.

In the end, Ruto’s biggest betrayal isn’t the new taxes or broken promises it’s that he pretended to care, only to become everything he once warned us about. His own words have come back to haunt him, and the people are watching closely.

The streets are speaking louder than ever, and if he continues down this path, history will not be kind to him.
