Was Albert killed in Karura or police station? All signs now point to a disturbing cover up

Date:

The arrest of a second suspect in the investigation into the death of 31-year-old teacher Albert Ojwang has exposed what appears to be a deliberate and well-coordinated cover-up.

The new suspect, a 23-year-old CCTV technician, is believed to have played a key role in tampering with the surveillance system at Nairobi’s Central Police Station where Albert was last seen alive. His arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Police Constable James Mukhwana, who is expected to face murder charges.

The technician reportedly received a payment of Ksh3,000 to interfere with the station’s CCTV system, effectively hiding critical video evidence from the days leading up to Ojwang’s death.

What raises even more questions is that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had already confirmed that CCTV footage from the Central Police Station was either missing or compromised.

IPOA Vice Chairperson Anne Wanjiku told the Senate that the footage from June 6 and 7 crucial days in the investigation had either been erased or was not available at all.

One of the cameras affected was located in the office of the Officer Commanding Station, a place that could have provided direct evidence of what happened to Ojwang. The technician admitted that he was called early in the morning by a police officer and asked to delete the footage.

Although he claims he did not delete anything and simply explained that only a full format could remove data, he still received the money and left after handling the system.

This points to an attempt to interfere with evidence and block investigators from knowing what really happened.

While the official story given by police had earlier suggested that Ojwang had hit his head on the cell walls, The Star published a report that introduced a completely different version of events. According to that report, Albert was allegedly taken to Karura Forest, far from the police station, and tortured to death.

This new claim directly contradicts the idea that Ojwang died while in custody. If Ojwang was indeed taken to another location, tortured, and killed, then why was the CCTV footage at the police station deleted or tampered with?

This question lies at the heart of the growing belief that the entire system was manipulated to cover up a possible murder that involved member of the police force who is DIG Eliud Lagat.

The contradiction between the police narrative and reports from other sources like The Star only strengthens the belief that a cover-up is underway.

It appears someone or a group of people had something to hide.

These actions show that there was fear of the truth coming out. The arrest of a low-level technician and one police constable is unlikely to be the full story. It is hard to believe they acted alone, especially with the growing evidence of organized tampering and deception.

There is increasing pressure on IPOA and other oversight bodies to go deeper and reveal who ordered the cover-up. The public deserves to know the full truth about how and where Albert Ojwang died. Every step taken to interfere with evidence only makes the situation more suspicious.

This is not just a case of murder. It is a case of cover-up, obstruction of justice, and abuse of power within the very institutions meant to protect Kenyans.
