Moja Expressway announces new traffic changes at Westlands exit

Date:

Motorists heading out of Nairobi through the Westlands Exit on the Nairobi Expressway will need to adjust their routes as maintenance and construction activities get underway in the area.

Moja Expressway has announced that work on the elevated overpass deck immediately after the Westlands exit will run from Tuesday, September 8, to Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The company said the works are scheduled to begin at 8 pm on September 8 and continue until 5 pm on September 20.During the maintenance period, drivers exiting the expressway at Westlands will not use the usual route.

Instead, they have been directed to join the lower A8 road along Waiyaki Way.Moja Expressway has asked motorists to approach the affected section carefully and follow instructions from traffic marshals who will be stationed in the area to manage traffic and guide drivers.

The temporary traffic arrangement is likely to affect journeys around Westlands, particularly during busy hours.

Motorists have therefore been advised to allow additional travel time and plan their routes before setting off.

The works come as other road infrastructure projects continue around the Westlands-Waiyaki Way corridor.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is currently undertaking pedestrian infrastructure projects in the area as part of wider efforts to improve road safety and expand facilities for pedestrians.

The projects include the construction and extension of footbridges and pedestrian walkways along Waiyaki Way and other major roads in Nairobi.

According to the authorities, the wider road improvement and beautification programme is intended to make the city’s transport network safer and more accessible for all road users.

With several construction activities taking place around the corridor, motorists using the Westlands area are encouraged to remain alert, observe temporary traffic signs and comply with directions from traffic personnel.
