Former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has raised security concerns ahead of his planned visit to Emurua Dikirr in Narok County on Friday, August 21, 2026.
In a letter addressed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Thursday, Gachagua alleged that government operatives were planning to disrupt his visit and create tension around the planned gathering.
He said he and members of his entourage had faced increasing threats as the visit approached.Gachagua accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo of supporting what he described as politically motivated police mobilisation in the constituency.
He further claimed that Emurua Dikirr MP David Kipsang Keter was coordinating activities on the ground.
The DCP leader also referred to alleged threats made by Kipsang, saying they had been recorded and shared widely on mainstream and social media platforms. According to Gachagua, the remarks amounted to a warning for him to stay away from the constituency.
In his letter, the former deputy president raised broader concerns about the conduct of the National Police Service and its handling of incidents involving him and his supporters.
He cited the Homa Bay incident as one of the cases where he believes the police failed to provide adequate protection.
Gachagua also said he had submitted evidence concerning 24 alleged attacks against him and his supporters to the police in January 2026.
He claimed that no meaningful action had been taken on the reports. He criticised the police leadership over what he described as the use of law enforcement agencies against his political movement.
Referring to the Homa Bay incident, Gachagua described it as a serious failure and suggested that it raised questions about the Inspector General’s continued leadership of the service.
The DCP leader further warned Kanja that failure to prevent what he called state-sanctioned violence could expose the police chief to legal action beyond Kenya.
Gachagua asked the Inspector General to provide clear assurances before his visit. He wants his entourage and supporters protected, police officers to be fully informed about the planned gathering and adequate security measures deployed across Emurua Dikirr.
The demands come as Gachagua prepares to visit the constituency, with attention now focused on how the police will handle the planned event and ensure the safety of those attending.
