Former DP Gachagua raises alarm over alleged election interference in Ol Kalou

Date:

Rigathi Gachagua has renewed his concerns over the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, claiming there are plans to interfere with the electoral process through the use of hired groups brought into the constituency to cause disruption.

Speaking on Saturday at his Wamunyoro residence during a meeting with leaders from Ol Jorok Constituency, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that the by-election is conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.

He said residents should be allowed to elect their preferred representative without fear, intimidation, or violence.Gachagua alleged that some leaders associated with the Kenya Kwanza administration were planning to transport individuals from neighbouring areas into Ol Kalou to influence the outcome of the election through chaos and intimidation. He specifically mentioned former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and several other political figures, urging them to keep away from any actions that could undermine the democratic process.

“I am asking Moses Kuria not to bring goons to Ol Kalou. Let the people of Ol Kalou choose their leader peacefully,” Gachagua said.

He further warned against the movement of groups from surrounding constituencies and towns, saying such actions could create tension during the campaign period and on polling day.

The former deputy president also directed his message to young people in the Mt Kenya region. He appealed to them not to accept money to engage in political violence or attacks against fellow citizens.

According to him, participation in such activities would only deepen divisions within communities and damage the region’s image.Gachagua argued that there have been attempts to portray members of the Mt Kenya community as people who can easily be persuaded to fight each other for money.

He challenged Ol Kalou residents to reject any form of bribery and demonstrate that voters cannot be influenced through handouts.

He called on the National Police Service to increase security preparations ahead of the by-election. He proposed the establishment of roadblocks to monitor movement into the constituency and prevent any suspected groups from entering the area to cause disturbances.

Gachagua also urged police commanders to deploy only uniformed officers during the election. He argued that visible policing would help build public confidence in the security arrangements.

In his remarks, he challenged Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat to ensure that security agencies maintain order and guarantee a peaceful and credible by-election for the people of Ol Kalou.
