Swift police response leads to arrest of suspect linked to phone snatching in Korogocho

Date:

Police officers in Korogocho have arrested a man believed to be behind a series of phone-snatching incidents that have troubled residents in the area.

The arrest followed a quick response by officers from Korogocho Police Station after an armed robbery was reported.

According to the National Police Service, the victim went to the police station and reported that a phone had been stolen during the robbery.

Officers immediately launched an operation to trace the suspect instead of delaying the response.

Their swift action led them to the suspect, who was arrested within a short time after the report was made.

During the operation, officers recovered a Samsung smartphone believed to have been stolen from the victim. They also recovered a knife that police say was used during the robbery.

The recovered items were taken into police custody as part of the investigation.

The suspect was then escorted to Korogocho Police Station, where he was booked into custody. He is expected to be processed before being presented in court to face charges related to the alleged robbery and phone theft.

Investigations are also expected to establish whether he may have been involved in other similar incidents reported in the area.

Phone snatching has remained a major concern in several parts of Nairobi, with criminals often targeting pedestrians and commuters before escaping quickly.

Such incidents have left many residents worried about their safety, especially during busy hours and in crowded streets.

The latest arrest is expected to offer some relief to residents who have repeatedly raised concerns over rising cases of street robberies and theft of mobile phones.

Police say they will continue pursuing suspects linked to such crimes as part of ongoing efforts to improve security in the area.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting members of the public and ensuring that those involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.

It noted that timely reporting of crimes plays a key role in helping officers respond quickly and recover stolen property.

Police have also urged Kenyans, residents and visitors to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious individuals or criminal activities at the nearest police station.

Authorities say cooperation between the public and law enforcement remains one of the most effective ways of preventing crime and making communities safer for everyone.
