Run 4 seniors set to return with bigger focus on supporting elderly Kenyans

Date:

The second edition of Run 4 Seniors is taking shape as preparations continue ahead of the main event, with organisers expressing confidence after a successful mock run held at Karura Forest.

The exercise brought together sponsors, partners, volunteers and fitness enthusiasts who participated in testing key aspects of the event before race day.

The mock run was organised by Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) as part of its efforts to ensure everything is in place for the event scheduled for July 18, 2025.

Participants helped assess race logistics, safety measures, route readiness and the overall experience expected during the main event.

Run 4 Seniors Chairman Moses Mwangi thanked the sponsors and partners for their continued support, saying their contribution has played a major role in helping the initiative grow.

According to him, the successful mock run showed that organisers are well prepared to host a safe and meaningful event.

Mwangi also encouraged more Kenyans, companies, institutions and community groups to register and take part in the race. He noted that wider participation would help create a lasting impact in the lives of elderly people who need support.

He further called on the private sector, development partners and members of the public to continue backing programmes that address the challenges facing senior citizens, especially those living in difficult social and economic conditions.

The Run 4 Seniors initiative aims to raise awareness about the needs of vulnerable older people while promoting healthy living and active ageing among participants and the wider community.

KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo also stressed the importance of working together to support the elderly. She said senior citizens have made valuable contributions to society over many years and deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and inclusion.

According to Njonjo, events such as Run 4 Seniors provide an opportunity for individuals, businesses and organisations to come together in support of a meaningful cause.

She encouraged more Kenyans to join the campaign and help build a society where no senior citizen is left behind.

The upcoming edition is expected to attract hundreds of participants from across the country, following the positive response received during the inaugural event.

Organisers hope to build on that momentum by expanding participation and increasing awareness about issues affecting older people.

This year’s event will feature 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories.

It will also include wellness and awareness activities aimed at promoting healthy ageing, social inclusion and better care for senior citizens across the country.
