New information has emerged about what may have caused the disappearance of social media commentator Maverick Aoko.
On Monday, October 28, an explosive post from Aoko’s social media pages shocked Kenyans, as the commentator’s aide used her account to reveal she was still missing while detailing her movements prior to disappearing.
The outspoken commentator, known for her explosive posts on X, was charged in August 2024 by the Milimani Court with disseminating false information via her social media account.
She was granted a bail of Ksh100,000. According to her aide, Aoko has decided to hide out in the countryside since her legal troubles began, only appearing in Nairobi to attend court.
The aide goes on to say that the first signs of trouble began two weeks ago, when Aoko returned home to find her door hinges tampered with, and her caretaker reported strange men hovering around her neighborhood.
“She called me panicked. I asked her to take pictures and leave.
She decided not to say it to prevent drawing attention that she was around,” the post from Aoko’s aide on her social media account read.
“Days later, she was interviewed by AFP about her arrest ordeal and continued threats. After her tweet on Mr. “F”, she went incognito, which we (family and friends) thought normal, perhaps she just wanted to confuse enemies.
”According to her aide, the commentator has been missing for five days, and her whereabouts are unknown. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) called for Aoko’s immediate release on Sunday, as her disappearance has gained more attention.
A number of prominent figures, including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, who is close to the missing online commentator, have called for her release.
“Aoko has been missing for days, and her whereabouts are not known. I have reached out to her family members and close friends, but no one knows where she is,” Babu Owino stated.
One of the primary concerns about Aoko’s disappearance is that there has been no word from government security agencies on whether she has been arrested or is being detained by authorities.
Some of her most ardent supporters believe there was foul play involved, as Aoko rarely takes breaks from her lucrative social media platforms.
