EACC probe demanded as Catherine Omanyo fails Busia with alleged mismanagement

Date:

Cyprian Nyakundi has sparked a fresh debate on accountability after sharing details on his X handle about the poor performance of Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.

According to a recent Infotrak poll, Omanyo was ranked among the worst-performing county leaders, raising serious concerns among Busia residents.

Many now want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate her over alleged misuse of public funds, particularly from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

Omanyo has been largely silent in Parliament, and critics argue that she has failed to represent the interests of Busia residents. Instead of focusing on meaningful development, she is accused of using projects as a cover to misappropriate public funds.

Several locals claim that millions meant for community programs have been diverted through her close family members, including her brother, sister, sister-in-law, and husband, all of whom reportedly hold positions in her office.

The allegations do not end there. Some of her supporters, particularly from Matayos constituency, feel abandoned after helping her secure victory in the 2022 elections.

They claim that after exposing corruption in her office, she sidelined them completely. Additionally, reports indicate that she has refused to pay political agents who worked for her during the campaign period.

This has created further discontent among those who once backed her.Adding to the controversy, Omanyo recently dismissed her communication strategist.

Sources suggest that the firing was linked to the strategist’s reluctance to support her alleged questionable dealings. This move has only added to suspicions that her leadership is marred by mismanagement and a lack of transparency.

Residents and political analysts now insist that a thorough investigation is necessary to establish the truth behind these allegations. They argue that if leaders like Omanyo continue to misuse public funds without consequences, it will set a dangerous precedent for future governance.

The calls for EACC to step in are growing louder, with many demanding that action be taken before more funds are lost. If these claims are proven true, Omanyo’s tenure could go down as one of the most scandalous in Busia’s history.
