In the intricate tapestry of Kenyan politics, there are few figures whose loyalty and dedication to their principles are as evident as that of Hon. Seth Steve Okute.
Known for his unwavering commitment to the people of Karachuonyo and his longstanding relationship with key political figures, especially the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, Okute’s political journey has been both a testament to resilience and a promise for a brighter future for his constituents.
Okute’s roots in politics stretch back to the 1997 Presidential elections when he first aligned himself with Raila Odinga in a partnership that would go on to define much of his career.
It was during this time that the late Raila, who would become affectionately known as “Baba,” not only encouraged Okute to step into active business but also helped him understand the intricacies of politics, leadership, and nation-building.
Their bond was not just political, but personal, built on mutual respect, shared ideals, and a vision for a more inclusive Kenya.
When the news of Raila Odinga’s passing hit, it felt like a seismic shift, not just within the political landscape, but also for those closest to him, including Okute.
The void left by Baba was not easy to fill, as Odinga had been a mentor, a guide, and a beacon of hope for many, including Okute.
It was a loss that reverberated through the hearts of many across Kenya, but for Okute, it was a call to carry forward the ideals and dreams they had once shared. His journey in politics hasn’t been without its challenges.
One significant chapter came in 2017, when Hon. Okute found himself summoned by political elders to step aside and allow the current Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo to serve his term in peace.
It was a humbling moment that spoke to Okute’s humility and his understanding of the need for generational transition in political leadership. His decision to step back in deference to the wishes of the people and political elders was a powerful statement of maturity and respect for the democratic process.
But as any seasoned politician knows, stepping back is not the same as stepping away.
For Okute, his vision for Karachuonyo has always been a work in progress. Now, as he looks towards the 2027 General Elections, Hon. Okute is resolute in his decision to contest for the Karachuonyo parliamentary seat once again, this time with a clearer sense of purpose.
He speaks of elevating the lives of his constituents, not just within the confines of an elected office, but through continued work outside of it.
Over the years, Okute has been involved in several developmental initiatives, empowering local youth, fostering small businesses, and addressing crucial needs like healthcare and education in the region.
“Karachuonyo deserves leadership that is not just reactive but proactive,” Okute said in a recent interview.
“I’ve seen firsthand the struggles of my people, and I know that with the right leadership, we can turn things around. It’s not about political ambition, it’s about the future of our children and the prosperity of our community.”Okute’s vision for the future is simple yet powerful: to provide quality education, improve infrastructure, and create economic opportunities for the youth of Karachuonyo.
He understands that with the current global challenges, it’s essential to empower the next generation to meet those challenges head-on.
This is why, in a rare public message, he extended his best wishes to all students who will be sitting for the Kenya Junior Secondary Examination (KJSEA), Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams this week.
“Make me proud, and make Karachuonyo proud. Aherou ahinya nyithindwa,” he urged the students, echoing a sentiment that has defined his life: a commitment to excellence, hard work, and the pursuit of a better tomorrow.
Hon. Seth Steve Okute is not just a politician; he is a servant-leader, driven by a deep sense of duty to his people. His past is a testament to his loyalty and dedication, while his future is filled with promise for the people of Karachuonyo.
The road to 2027 will be challenging, but one thing is certain—Okute will never stop fighting for the people he holds dear.
As Karachuonyo prepares to choose its next leader, there is no doubt that Hon. Seth Okute will be a force to reckon with, carrying forward the legacy of Raila Odinga and working tirelessly to uplift his people, just as he has always done
