Edwin Sifuna walks out of Senate after backing Gachagua’s claims

Date:

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna surprised many on Thursday when he suddenly walked out of a Senate session after defending former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

This unexpected move left lawmakers shocked, especially because Sifuna is usually one of the strongest critics of the Kenya Kwanza government.

During a heated debate about fairness in national development, Sifuna boldly stated that “Gachagua was right,” referring to the former deputy president’s recent complaints about government neglect and unfair treatment of certain regions.

His words caught both his political allies and opponents off guard, raising eyebrows across the chamber.Sifuna made it clear that he does not often agree with Gachagua, but on this issue, he felt the truth needed to be acknowledged.

He said that some regions in Kenya were being ignored by the government while others were getting more support. According to him, this kind of imbalance is dangerous and needs to be discussed openly, not ignored.

His remarks stirred up strong emotions in the Senate. Some senators started accusing him of playing political games, while others praised him for his courage to speak the truth.

The Senate session quickly turned chaotic, with lawmakers unsure how to react to Sifuna’s sudden walkout. His decision to leave the chamber in the middle of such an important discussion added to the confusion.

It was clear that his frustration with how the Senate handles issues of fairness had reached a boiling point. Speaking to the media shortly after leaving the Senate, Sifuna repeated his message.

He said that while he often disagrees with Gachagua, this time the former deputy president had spoken the truth, and it was time leaders stopped pretending that everything is fine.

He also pointed out that ignoring such concerns only makes the situation worse and hurts national unity. His remarks and actions have sparked a big debate on social media.

Some Kenyans are calling him brave and honest, saying it takes guts to admit when a political opponent is right. Others are questioning whether Sifuna has hidden political motives or if he is planning a shift in his political alliances.

Regardless of the opinions, one thing is clear: his actions have added more fire to the ongoing debate about how government resources are shared across the country.

With political tension rising, Sifuna’s bold stand is likely to keep this conversation going for weeks to come.
