PS Abraham Korir Sing’oei has found himself in the middle of controversy after sharing a fake AI-generated video, only to delete it later when people started questioning its authenticity.
However, deleting it did not help much because many people had already taken screenshots and saved evidence. This has raised serious concerns about the credibility of a person who is supposed to be in charge of Kenya’s foreign policy.
If a senior government official can fall for such things and mislead the public, what does that say about the state of leadership in the country?
People expect someone in his position to be careful about what they share. A person in charge of foreign affairs should be well-informed and make decisions based on verified facts.
If Sing’oei can publicly share misleading content, what other blunders is he making behind the scenes? This raises doubts about whether he is fit to represent Kenya on the international stage.
Foreign policy is not something to be handled carelessly. One wrong move can ruin diplomatic relations and put the country in a difficult position. If a fake video can be posted without proper verification, what else is slipping through the cracks?
This also exposes the deeper problem of government officials using social media recklessly. Instead of using their platforms to inform and engage responsibly, some of them spread falsehoods, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
The fact that Sing’oei deleted the video without offering any explanation or apology only makes things worse. If he had nothing to hide, why remove it? A responsible leader would have addressed the issue directly instead of pretending it never happened.
This kind of behavior only fuels more suspicion about the intentions of those in government. Another important question is whether Sing’oei even has control over the information he puts out. Was he misled by someone else, or did he knowingly spread the fake video? If he was tricked, it means he does not do proper research before sharing information. If he did it on purpose, then it shows a lack of integrity.
Either way, the situation does not look good for him. Kenyans deserve leaders who are sharp, informed, and transparent. This also brings attention to the dangers of AI-generated content and how easily people can be manipulated. If a senior official can be fooled, what about ordinary citizens who may not have the tools to verify such things?
The rise of deepfake videos and AI-generated misinformation is a serious problem, and it is even worse when those in power fall for it. Instead of leading by example, they end up spreading confusion and mistrust. In the end, this issue is not just about a deleted video.
It is about leadership, responsibility, and credibility. If a person in charge of Kenya’s foreign policy cannot be trusted to verify simple information before sharing it, how can they be trusted with bigger decisions that affect the entire country?
This is a wake-up call for Kenyans to demand better from their leaders. Accountability should not be an option; it should be a requirement.
