Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has joined leaders and Kenyans in demanding the release of the purported abductees.
Onyonka urged the unconditional release of all abducted Kenyans within 12 hours.“If not, Kenyans of goodwill have an obligation under Article 37 of our 2010 Constitution to demonstrate…!” he warned.
This follows the most recent series of abductions in the country, with at least seven young people seized since December 17, 2024.
At the same time, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported that 82 people had been abducted since June, with 29 still missing.
According to the Commission, 13 incidents have been reported over the last three months.
One of those kidnapped in December has since been located.
Steve Mbisi of Machakos, Billy Mwangi of Embu, Peter Muteti of Nairobi, Bernard Kavuli of Nairobi, Rony Kiplang’at of Kiambu, and Gideon Kibet aka Kibet Bull of Nairobi are the six people who remain missing.Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged families whose members have been kidnapped to report the incident to the authorities.
Speaking in Bungoma County on Friday, he urged them to share precise information about the disappearance of those abducted.The CS promised to support the police during the investigations.
“We will support the police to ensure that they do thorough investigations to establish the whereabouts of those citizens,” he said.
On Friday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused a hidden force of masterminding the recent abductions.
“There is a unit that is not under the command of the IG of Police. There’s a building in Nairobi where the unit is operating from,” he said.
“If this unit is not dismantled, we will be giving the name of the building and the full names of that officer and his cousin. Your guess is as good as mine as to who is the commander of that unit.”
