A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Trans Nzoia County following the death of a 22-year-old farm worker during a confrontation over a mobile phone.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Kemboi, was arrested in Tawai village, Wamuini sub-location, after detectives from Kiminini Sub-County, officers from Kiungani Police Station and members of the public joined efforts to track him down.
The incident happened on the afternoon of August 24, 2026, following a disagreement between Kemboi and Stephen Ndungu. According to a report made at Kiungani Police Station, Ndungu had started working as a farmhand a day before the incident.
Police said the disagreement between the two men was linked to a mobile phone. What started as an argument later turned into a physical fight.
During the confrontation, Kemboi allegedly assaulted Ndungu with his fists and other blows.
The victim collapsed during the incident and died at the scene.Officers who arrived at the scene examined the body and recorded visible injuries on the head, face and stomach.
The circumstances surrounding the death are now the subject of an investigation by detectives based in Kiminini.
Following the incident, detectives began searching for the suspect. Kemboi was eventually cornered and arrested after a chase involving the detectives, Kiungani police officers and members of the public who helped in the search.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the full circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
Police are expected to present him in court once investigations are completed.Meanwhile, Ndungu’s body was taken to Kiminini Cottage Mortuary, where it is being preserved as the family and authorities await a post-mortem examination.
The examination is expected to provide further information on the cause of death and assist investigators as they prepare the case against the suspect.
Police have continued to appeal for calm as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and prepare the matter for possible prosecution.
