A cloud of shock and grief has settled over Kiambu following the tragic and violent death of a young mother. Mary Mwende Mutie, a woman described as a loving mother, is dead, and her husband, a respected surgeon, is now in police custody, accused of taking her life during a domestic dispute.
Dr. Dennis Masoba Nyambane, a consultant general surgeon working for the Kiambu County Government, was arraigned in a Kiambu court on August 10. He stands accused of stabbing his wife, Mary, with a kitchen knife inside their apartment.
The details of the incident are truly heartbreaking.
According to investigators, Mary attempted to flee the attack, desperately running towards the staircase to escape the violence.
Tragically, she collapsed and died from her injuries before she could get help. Detectives are now examining evidence from the scene, including bloodstains found along the staircase, as they work to piece together exactly what happened.
The court has ordered that Dr. Masoba be held in detention for seven days. This will give the police more time to complete their investigation and gather all the necessary evidence.
In addition, the judge has ordered that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation. This is a standard procedure in cases involving such serious allegations, to assess his mental state.
This is an unimaginable tragedy for all involved, but most of all for the young child left behind. Mary and Dr. Masoba leave behind a three-year-old son, a little boy who will now grow up without his mother and with a father facing a murder charge.
