Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have uncovered an illegal cannabis cultivation site in Kajiado County, recovering nearly 79 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of KSh2.37 million during a well-planned intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) working together with detectives from Ololua Police Station after receiving information about an illegal cannabis farm operating in the area.
According to the DCI, investigators first verified the intelligence before moving in to conduct the raid.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the DCI said the officers found the cannabis cultivation site actively operating when they arrived.
The agency described the operation as a success made possible through intelligence gathering and coordination between different police units.
The officers immediately secured the scene before uprooting the cannabis plants that had been cultivated on the farm. During the operation, detectives also recovered five sacks containing 78.98 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa.
The DCI estimated the street value of the recovered drugs at KSh2,369,000. The seizure is among the notable cannabis recoveries reported in the region in recent months and highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to target illegal drug activities.
Authorities did not immediately disclose whether any suspects were arrested during the operation or if investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the illegal cultivation.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody as investigations continue.The DCI said it remains committed to dealing with the cultivation, trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs across the country.
The agency noted that similar intelligence-led operations will continue as part of a wider effort to disrupt criminal groups involved in the illegal drug trade.
Police also appealed to members of the public to continue working closely with security agencies by reporting any suspected drug-related activities in their communities.
According to the DCI, information shared by the public plays an important role in helping investigators trace illegal drug networks and prevent narcotics from reaching the market.
The agency further encouraged Kenyans to use its toll-free hotline or WhatsApp platform to report suspicious activities, assuring the public that all information received is handled confidentially.
The DCI said public cooperation remains essential in strengthening the country’s fight against narcotics and bringing those involved in the illegal trade to justice.
