Three people have been arrested in connection with the violent attack on Chemelil Academy in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, as police continue to pursue other suspects believed to have taken part in the incident.
The attack occurred on June 18, 2026 which we highlighted, when a group of about 20 men reportedly stormed the school and caused extensive damage.
Police officers from Muhoroni Sub-County responded after receiving reports of an ongoing attack at the institution.
According to police, officers rushed to the scene and found the suspects fleeing in different directions. Some were seen heading towards Achego while others escaped through nearby sugarcane plantations, making it difficult for officers to immediately arrest them.
Investigations indicate that the gang forced its way into the school’s administration block, where they vandalised several offices, including those of the Principal and Deputy Principal.
The attackers are also accused of assaulting staff members during the incident before stealing mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from the school.
The attack left several staff members injured. They were taken to Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Following the incident, detectives launched investigations and a manhunt for those involved.
Through intelligence-led operations, officers arrested three suspects identified as Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma, and Walter Owa, also known as Teddy Obul.
The arrests were made at different locations within Chemelil.
Police say the three suspects remain in custody as legal procedures continue ahead of their arraignment in court. Investigators are also working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether additional individuals were involved.
Authorities have assured residents that efforts to track down the remaining suspects are ongoing. Officers are following several leads as they seek to bring everyone connected to the incident before the courts.
The attack has raised concern among residents and members of the school community, with many hoping that those responsible will be held accountable and that security around learning institutions will be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
