Mildred Kache, also known as Sabreena Ayesha, has been arrested by detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters over an alleged gold scam that reportedly defrauded an American investor of more than USDT 431,380. Investigators believe she played a central role in a fake gold business deal that promised the foreign national 400 kilograms of gold bars, only for the suspects to allegedly disappear after receiving the money.
According to investigators, the suspects presented themselves as genuine gold dealers capable of supplying the gold consignment.
The foreign investor was reportedly convinced by the promises and detailed arrangements made during the negotiations. Believing the deal was legitimate, he travelled to Nairobi to finalize the agreement.
Authorities say the suspects carefully planned the operation to appear professional and trustworthy. Documents were reportedly prepared, meetings were held, and the victim was led to believe the gold shipment would be processed immediately after payment.
Once the agreement was signed, the investor transferred the money into bank accounts linked to the suspects.
However, after the funds were received, communication suddenly stopped. The people behind the deal allegedly became unreachable, and no gold was delivered as promised. It was at that point that the investor realized he had fallen victim to fraud and reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Detectives then launched investigations and followed several forensic leads in an effort to trace the suspects.
Their efforts eventually led them to Crystal Villas in Kilimani, where Mildred was cornered and arrested.
Police say another suspect, identified as Ibrahim Yusuf Mohamed, managed to escape before detectives arrived. Investigators believe he may have learned that authorities were closing in on him.
During the operation, detectives recovered a black Mercedes-Benz E50 with registration number KCV 910C, which they suspect may be linked to the case.
The vehicle was seized and taken to the Nairobi Regional Headquarters as part of the ongoing investigations.
Mildred remains in police custody as detectives complete processing ahead of her court appearance. Meanwhile, authorities say efforts to track down the second suspect are continuing.
