Nick Mararo backs youth innovation at Nova Garage launch during Africa Forward Summit

Date:

Nick Mararo on Monday joined leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs at the launch of Nova Garage in Nairobi, where he also witnessed the unveiling of Base Yetu’s PodcastOnWheels, a mobile podcast studio built inside a matatu.

The event was held as a side activity during the Africa Forward Summit and focused on bringing together people with fresh ideas that can help shape Africa’s future through innovation, business, and community-driven solutions.

Nova Garage was created as a platform where startups and young entrepreneurs can meet investors, share their ideas, and find support to help their projects grow.

The launch attracted participants from different parts of Africa, including Kenya, all with a shared interest in creating practical solutions for everyday challenges. Discussions focused on technology, business development, digital opportunities, and how African innovation can be supported from within the continent.

Among the leaders present was ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau, who joined conversations around how innovation can shape the future of Kenya and Africa.

His presence highlighted the growing importance of technology and entrepreneurship in national development and youth empowerment.

For Nick Mararo, the event was more than just a networking opportunity. It was a chance to engage directly with business leaders, startup founders, and creatives who are working to solve real problems in their communities.

He noted that such spaces are important because they allow people to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and open doors for future collaboration. He believes that progress often begins when people with different experiences come together to share solutions.

One of the standout moments of the day was the unveiling of Base Yetu’s PodcastOnWheels. This unique concept transforms a matatu into a fully mobile podcast studio that can move across estates, towns, and local neighborhoods to record conversations and stories directly from the people.

Instead of waiting for communities to come to a studio, the studio goes to them.

The idea behind PodcastOnWheels is simple but powerful. Many talented people, innovators, and creatives in Kenya do not always have access to large platforms where their voices can be heard.

Some have strong ideas, inspiring stories, or practical solutions to local problems, but they lack visibility.

The project aims to create space for these voices to be captured and shared.Mararo said this kind of initiative reflects the reality of Kenya.

Matatus are already a major part of everyday life and are used by millions of people daily. Turning one into a mobile studio is a smart and relatable way to combine culture, technology, and storytelling.

It allows conversations to happen in places where people feel comfortable and where real life happens. He also noted that leadership is not only about policy or speeches but also about creating opportunities for people to participate and be seen.

Supporting projects like PodcastOnWheels aligns with his belief that communities grow stronger when people are included and when their stories matter.

For someone with strong roots in Nyeri County and a background in entrepreneurship and public service, he sees value in ideas that bring people closer to opportunity.

The Africa Forward Summit provided a wider platform for these discussions. Leaders from across Africa and international partners gathered in Nairobi to discuss partnerships, economic growth, and the future of the continent.

Kenya’s role as host once again showed Nairobi’s growing position as a center for innovation and new thinking in Africa.

Side events like Nova Garage helped ensure that the summit remained connected to practical solutions on the ground. While larger meetings focused on policy and partnerships, the launch of PodcastOnWheels reminded participants that real impact often starts at the community level.
