Nick Mararo joins parents and teachers in supporting projects at Karemeno secondary school

Date:

A recent visit by Nick Mararo to St. Bridget of Sweden Karemeno Secondary School brought together faith, education, and community development in a meaningful way.

Mararo attended a Thanksgiving Mass at the school after receiving an invitation from Mr. Bernard Mukundi, a board member at the institution and also his former classmate from Nyeri High School.

The occasion gave him an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces while also learning more about the challenges and progress being made at the school.

The event attracted students, parents, teachers, church members, and other invited guests who all shared a common interest in supporting education and creating better opportunities for young people.

The Thanksgiving Mass created a calm and reflective atmosphere, allowing the community to appreciate the efforts already being made while also discussing what more could be done for the students.

After the church service, conversations focused on the changing needs of learners in today’s world. Many speakers emphasized that education should go beyond classroom performance and examination results.

While academic success remains important, participants agreed that schools should also help students discover their talents, build confidence, develop discipline, and strengthen their emotional and social well-being.

There was a strong feeling among those present that young people need balanced support if they are to succeed both in school and in life after graduation.

One of the key highlights of the day was a fundraiser aimed at supporting important development projects within the school.

Among the planned projects is the construction of a multi-purpose hall that will serve several functions including hosting meetings, school events, indoor activities, and additional learning sessions.

The school community believes the facility will help create more space for students and improve the general learning environment.

Another important project discussed was the construction of a water harvesting mega tank.

Water shortages remain a challenge in many parts of the region, and the proposed tank is expected to provide a more reliable source of water for students and staff.

Those present noted that access to water is not only important for daily use but also plays a major role in maintaining hygiene and supporting school activities throughout the year.

The school is also working to strengthen its home science project under the Competency-Based Education program.

Teachers and parents explained that practical learning has become increasingly important because it equips students with hands-on skills they can apply in everyday life and future careers. Improving the program is expected to give learners better exposure to areas such as nutrition, cooking, and household management while also encouraging creativity and self-reliance.

Nick Mararo’s presence at the event reflected his continued interest in youth empowerment and education matters. Known in Nyeri County as a businessman and youth advocate, Mararo leads Base Yetu, an organization that supports young people through sports, talent development, and community-based activities.

Through initiatives such as pool tournaments and youth engagement programs, he has helped create spaces where young people can earn income, sharpen their skills, and stay involved in positive activities within their communities.

Many residents in Nyeri have come to view him as someone who focuses more on practical involvement than public promises.

His name has also been mentioned in discussions surrounding the 2027 Nyeri Senate race, although his community work has remained at the center of public attention.

Mararo comes from a family with a background in public service. His late father, David Mararo Waigi, served both as a councillor and later as the Mayor of Nyeri Municipality. Nick is also married to Kanze Dena, the former State House spokesperson, and together they continue to remain active in community and family life.
