Political Ringside hosts Denzel Bruce on Raymond Omollo’s growing influence in Nyanza politics

Date:

Political Ringside recently hosted a discussion on the growing political attention around Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination, with political commentator Denzel Bruce saying the quiet and soft-spoken official is slowly becoming one of the most talked-about figures in Nyanza politics ahead of future elections.

Speaking during the interview with host Tonny Nyakoko, Bruce described Omollo as a calm and disciplined leader who prefers focusing on his work instead of engaging in public drama.

Bruce, who comes from Homa Bay County like Omollo, said many people in the region are beginning to notice the Principal Secretary because of his leadership style and the projects associated with his name.

According to Bruce, Omollo’s appointment into government was viewed by many as a reward for loyalty after he supported President William Ruto at a time when the majority of leaders and residents in Nyanza were aligned with the opposition.

He explained that loyalty in politics often attracts recognition over time, especially when someone remains consistent even during difficult political moments.

Unlike many politicians in the region who are known for strong political statements and aggressive campaigns, Omollo was described as someone who keeps a low profile and avoids unnecessary confrontations.

Bruce noted that the Principal Secretary rarely responds to criticism publicly and instead allows his work to speak for him. This, he said, has made people even more curious about him.

During the conversation, Bruce referred to development projects and empowerment efforts linked to Omollo, especially in Homa Bay County.

He mentioned support for students at Tom Mboya University College, saying the number of beneficiaries under sponsorship initiatives had continued to grow.

There were also discussions about empowerment programs targeting widows and vulnerable groups within the community.

Bruce argued that such programs are helping Omollo build a positive image among residents because people are able to see direct impact in their lives.

He added that although Omollo does not appear to chase media attention, his work continues to attract conversations both online and on the ground.

The discussion also focused on the changing political environment in Nyanza.

For many years, the region has largely supported opposition politics under ODM leader Raila Odinga. However, Bruce observed that recent events suggest there could be gradual political changes taking place.

He pointed to the warm reception President William Ruto has received during visits to parts of the region, including Kisumu, as a sign that some residents may now be more open to engaging with the national government.

According to Bruce, younger voters and professionals are increasingly focusing on development and opportunities rather than long-standing political divisions.

He said many young people want leaders who can create impact through projects, education support, and economic empowerment.

The issue of future leadership in Luo Nyanza also came up during the interview. Bruce suggested that many people are beginning to ask questions about the next generation of leaders who could shape politics in the region in the coming years.

While he avoided making direct political predictions about Omollo’s future, he said the Principal Secretary already has growing influence because of his approach and public image.

He described Omollo as someone with natural charisma despite being reserved. Bruce added that the Principal Secretary appears comfortable working quietly without trying too hard to dominate headlines.

The conversation further touched on the role of young people in politics. Bruce encouraged youth to remain disciplined and focused instead of allowing themselves to be misused by politicians.

He said the younger generation has an opportunity to make informed choices and support leaders based on service delivery and development.

The Political Ringside interview painted a picture of a region slowly experiencing political shifts and new conversations. While Omollo remains a civil servant focused on government duties, his name continues to attract attention in Nyanza’s political discussions.

Whether this attention translates into a bigger political role in the future remains uncertain, but the discussion showed that many people are already closely watching his journey and the influence his leadership style may have on the region’s politics ahead of 2027.
